Scope of Build: Ground floor extension to a late-Victorian terrace to create an open-plan living space and a much-needed downstairs cloakroom, all built under Permitted Development rights (i.e. planning permission is not needed).

Outcome: The terracotta floor allows the room to be used seamlessly with the garden, without quickly showing dirt or wear. The marble kitchen surfaces offer similar durability, but are light in colour as they are in an area which is difficult to light naturally. Exposing the structure improves the feeling of space in the narrow house, and the yellow steel post is likely to be useful for leaning on during cocktail parties.
